The City of Chicago has no centralized municipal records center. The historical records of city government and its elected officials are spread out among many repositories. This guide provides an overview of what collections are available and where to access them. The collections relate specifically to Chicago's municipal government including its elected officials such as mayors and aldermen as well as those related to city departments, agencies, and more. Most of the highlighted collections are from repositories affiliated with the Chicago Collections Consortium but some are not. New resources, including newly digitized municipal records, will be added to this subject guide as
they become available.
